The Classic Motorcycle Festival returns to Donington in 2019, for one of Europe’s biggest celebrations of motorcycling through the decades.
The event recreates the atmosphere of bike racing from the 60s, 70s and 80s, with numerous rare machines among the hundreds of bikes expected to compete across 40 races on a packed schedule.
Look out for a huge range of solos and sidecars, and a number of prestigious classic racing championships, including the FIM European Vintage Road Race Championships, ACU National Championships, the Wheatcroft Trophy Race powered by Classic Racer and the Lansdowne Classic Series, with the full event schedule to be published soon.
Each year a number of star guests flock to the festival, and 2019 should be no different, with fan’s favourite Steve Parrish already confirmed. Parades, demos and huge display areas featuring support from the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club will add to the festival feel. The open paddock will ensure all visitors can get up close to some of the most spectacular racing bikes still in existence.

The engineers designed the Modenas KR3 to make the bike as agile as possible, and to that end chose an engine layout with one cylinder less than the competitors and lived with the consequence of potentially lower rpm, which is the easier way to get power. Barton Motors started the Phoenix project in 1976 at its former Nazareth Chapel in Caernarvonshire. The Phoenix was a square four two-stroke with design similarities to the Suzuki RG500. Designer Barry Hart choose not to use reed valves as they restrict performance at the top end and instead opted for disc valve induction that permits the use of asymmetrical inlet timing.

By the late 1960s, stressed skin, or 'monocoque', chassis construction had established itself as the norm for Formula 1 cars, so it was hardly surprising that with his connections to the Brabham F2 team, Colin Seeley built the TR500 Monocoque over the winter of 1972/3 to be ridden by Barry Sheene and Pat Mahoney.
